JOB TITLE: Education Specialist<br><br>POSITION DEFINITION: Under the direction of a Site Administrator and the Director of Special Education, provides instruction, assessment and program planning for Special Education students; monitors and evaluates student progress and behavior; researches, obtains and provides instructional materials for Special Education services; serves as informational resource for students, parents, teachers and /or other District personnel; works within a self-contained classroom and within the general education classroom to ensure students individual needs are being met.<br><br><strong>Essential Job Functions<br><br></strong>Initial Referrals:<br><br><ul><li>Informs parents of the need to file a written request for assessment when a verbal request is made</li><li>Provides assistance in completing this written request when necessary</li><li>Submits initial referral requests to District Office Secretary immediately, upon receipt. <br><br></li></ul><strong>Assessment<br><br></strong><ul><li>Assists in the development of the assessment plan (SELPA 8) and in the identification of a students individual needs through assessments</li><li>Provides results of academic achievement assessments to District Psychologist at least 5 days prior to IEP meeting<br><br></li></ul><strong>Instruction<br><br></strong><ul><li>Provides direct instruction to Special Education students as outlined in the IEP either in a self-contained classroom or in the general education classroom</li><li>Assists and directs Teaching Assistants in delivering instructional support to students within the classroom</li><li>Arranges and coordinates IEP team meetings with School Secretary, Site Principal and District Office, ensuring that all necessary timelines are met; these responsibilities may be allocated to a Site IEP Chair, if applicable</li><li>Develops Individual Education Plans (IEP) for students found eligible for Special Education</li><li>Ensures IEP is complete, accurate and that a complete copy is provided to parents with the original going to the District Office no later than 10 days past the IEP meeting date</li><li>Notifies District Office when parent translation is needed</li><li>Coordinates, consults and collaborates with Administrators, general education classroom Teachers, Psychologists, Program Specialists, support staff, outside agencies and parents regarding instructional planning for Special Education students and implementation of IEP</li><li>Provides in-service training for school site staff as necessary</li><li>Reports any concerns regarding the implementation of the IEP to the Site Administrator</li><li>Evaluates student progress, obtains and monitors necessary records including grades, progress reports and documentation of progress towards goals indicating student academic performance, behavior performance and attendance; takes appropriate actions as indicated by this data</li><li>Recommends revisions of IEP when necessary</li><li>Writes Behavior Support Plans and monitors behavioral interventions as necessary utilizing positive behavior strategies</li><li>Assists parents in understanding their rights, the special education process and procedures; offers and/or provides a copy of the Parent Rights prior to or at each IEP team meeting</li><li>Provides the necessary information to the Site/District Testing Coordinator for all State/District assessments</li><li>Attends and participates in District and site level meetings as appropriate<br><br></li></ul><strong>Job Requirements/Qualifications<br><br></strong><ul><li> Licenses, Certifications, Bonding, and/or Testing Required: Valid CA credential authorizing mild/moderate -OR- learning handicapped, CLAD or BCLAD (Spanish) authorization, Crisis Prevention Intervention (CPI) compliant, Added authorization in: Autism Spectrum Disorder, Deaf-Blind, Orthopedically Impaired, Other Health Impairment, and Traumatic Brain Injury (or willingness to obtain added authorizations during first year of employment)<br><br></li></ul><strong>Required Documents To Be Uploaded Into Online Application<br><br></strong><ul><li>Credential Copy</li><li>English Learner Authorization (CLAD or embedded EL)</li><li>Letter of Introduction</li><li>Resume</li><li>Letter(s) of Recommendation (Three (3) minimum within last 12 months with one from a direct supervisor)</li><li>Transcripts</li></ul>
