Workday Internal Jobs Site for Students Position Title: Teaching Assistant for English For College Camp Job Category: Student Hourly Job Profile: Student Help Job Summary: POSITION DESCRIPTION FOR Teacher Assistant for English for College POSITION SUMMARY: The English for College program serves Wisconsin ninth-twelfth grade students who are learning English as a second language. As Teacher Assistant (TA), you will live in the residence hall with approximately 16 high school students and work alongside the Program Lead Teacher during instructional time. The TA is required to meet with the Program Lead Teacher a minimum of two times prior to the start of the EFC program to cover curriculum plans and to meet regularly before class to plan lessons and coordinate coursework. In addition to assisting in the classroom, the Teacher Assistant will assist with recreational activities after class and collaborate with Residential Peer Mentors to support student engagement and supervision when needed. This position requires working nights and weekends. RESPONSIBILITIES: The Teacher Assistant primary role is to work alongside the Program’s Lead Teacher with instructional support during class hours during Monday-Friday, generally between 8:30:00 a.m.-2:00 p.m. Facilitate small group discussion without the lead teacher. The TA also leads study time to help students complete their homework and projects. Outside of instructional time, the TA supports student participants’ supervision with Residential Peer Mentor’s activities when needed, such as mentoring high school students, leading recreational and enrichment activities to ensure student engagement, safety, and well-being. The TA models responsible leadership, follows program policies and procedures, and helps maintain a positive, structured, and inclusive living-learning environment throughout the residential program. Overall, the TA will help and support students during both instructional and residential programming. HOURS: The Teacher Assistant will lead and support students during both instructional and residential programming. During class hours, the TA works alongside the Program Lead Teacher to assist with instruction and student support, Monday-Friday, generally from 8:30-2:00 p.m. Outside of instructional time, the Teacher Assistant supports student participants’ supervisions with Residential Peer Mentor activities when needed. QUALIFICATIONS: • Cultural sensitivity and awareness of the needs of students from diverse backgrounds, including English language learners • Ability to take direction and work cooperatively with program lead teacher • Ability to communicate effectively and collaborate effectively in a team environment • Experience or interest in leading and facilitating group activities or recreation • Sophomore-level students or higher & continued enrollment at UWSP • Minimum 2.5 cumulative GPA PREFERED QUALIFICATION: • Knowledge of residence hall policy/experience enforcing policy • Knowledge/experience directing team sports and outdoor recreation • Certification in first aid, CPR, and life saving • Knowledge of a language other than English is helpful • Wisconsin driver’s license and a good driving record • Major in Education or English Second Language (ESL) SUPERVISION: The Teacher Assistant will report directly to the EFC’s Teacher and Zong Vang, EFC Coordinator, as their immediate supervisors.
