Sr. Program Manager, Business Systems & Tooling

Program Manager, GTM Systems & Tooling

Location: Betterment HQ - New York City

Department: Business Systems

About Betterment

Betterment is a leading, technology-driven financial services company that offers investing, savings and retirement solutions for retail investors and investment advisors as well as financial wellness solutions, including a 401(k) for small and medium-sized businesses. Our team is passionate about our mission, to empower people to build wealth with confidence and ease. We’re headquartered in NYC and offer hybrid NY-based positions (four days/ week in-office, with no required office days during the summer and winter holidays).

About the Role

The Business Systems & Tooling (BS&T) team builds and operates the internal systems that power Betterments B2B businesses — from Salesforce and its surrounding integrations to the tooling that connects our sales, service, and advisor workflows to the Betterment platform itself. Because Betterment sells across multiple lines of business, our sales tech stack has to reflect that complexity: its not one product and one funnel, but a set of interconnected systems serving distinct teams with distinct needs.

This role owns the interface between BS&T and its stakeholders. Youll embed deeply within stakeholder teams — attending their meetings, learning their day-to-day workflows, and understanding their upcoming priorities — so that BS&T can proactively identify opportunities rather than waiting for problems to arrive as tickets. Youll then bring that context back to the team, partnering with our engineering leads and architects to translate stakeholder needs into well-scoped tasks and clear, communicated roadmaps.

This role is ideal for someone who is energized by sitting between business teams and technical teams: fluent enough in each world to be trusted by both, and disciplined enough to turn ambiguity into a plan.

This role is based out of our NYC office. Below weve reflected the base salary range for this position. Actual salaries may vary depending on factors including but not limited to location, experience, and performance. The range listed is just one component of Betterments total compensation package for employees.

New York City: $125,000 – $145,000

This job may also be eligible for variable compensation in the form of a company incentive bonus.

A Day in the Life

Stakeholder Immersion & Discovery

Embed with stakeholder teams across our lines of business, attending their regular meetings and building a working knowledge of their processes, tools, and pain points.

Proactively surface opportunities for tooling improvements, automation, and best practices — bringing ideas to stakeholders rather than waiting to be handed a problem.

Maintain a continuously updated view of each stakeholder groups upcoming priorities and how they map to BS&Ts capacity and roadmap.

Act as the first point of contact for new stakeholder requests, gathering context and framing the underlying need before work is committed.

Scoping, Roadmapping & Prioritization

Partner with BS&Ts engineering lead and architects to translate stakeholder needs into scoped, documented tasks with clear success criteria.

Own and communicate the BS&T roadmap, making prioritization decisions legible to stakeholders and aligning our planning rhythm with the rest of the company.

Balance urgent stakeholder priorities against high-value quality-of-life improvements, ensuring compounding wins dont get perpetually deferred.

Run intake, backlog grooming, and status communication processes so the teams work — and the reasoning behind it — is visible.

Vendor & Salestech Landscape

Stay current on the salestech landscape, evaluating emerging tools and practices for fit with Betterments stack.

Support vendor assessments, procurement, and renewal processes across our salestech vendors, partnering with Finance, Legal, and Security as needed.

Help stakeholders evaluate build-vs-buy tradeoffs with a clear-eyed view of total cost, integration complexity, and maintenance burden.

What Were Looking For

Skills & Experience

5+ years of experience in product management, technical program management, business systems analysis, or a similar role sitting between business stakeholders and technical teams.

Working knowledge of Salesforce and the surrounding GTM systems ecosystem (e.g., CPQ workflows, enrichment, engagement, and integration tooling) — enough to scope work credibly and ask the right questions, even if you dont build in it yourself.

Experience at a company with a complex, multi-product go-to-market — where internal systems must integrate the CRM, adjacent salestech tools, and the product being sold itself.

Demonstrated ability to turn ambiguous stakeholder requests into scoped, prioritized, well-documented work.

Experience supporting vendor evaluation, procurement, or renewal processes is a strong plus.

Professional Competencies

Builds trust quickly with both business stakeholders and engineers, and communicates fluently with each in their own terms.

Comfortable saying not yet — able to make prioritization tradeoffs transparent and keep stakeholder confidence even when their request isnt next.

Proactive by default: identifies opportunities and proposes solutions rather than operating purely on intake.

Strong writer and documenter; believes that a decision isnt made until its written down and shared.

Thrives in a small team where process is yours to design, not inherited.

Nice to Have

Experience in fintech, financial services, or another regulated industry.

Familiarity with SQL or data analysis tools sufficient to self-serve answers about system and business data.

Exposure to marketing automation or martech platforms (e.g., Braze, HubSpot).

Join a team built on these core values

We change lives

Be a part of a community of innovators working to transform financial outcomes for real people. If we’d like to spend more time with you, we’ll reach out to arrange next steps, which will include 3-4 sets of meetings with your future colleagues.

In the interview process, we’ll look to learn more about your skills, experiences, capabilities, and motivators. Many of our questions will be aimed at understanding how you might operate here at Betterment. Depending on the role, we may ask you to complete a case study exercise or technical assessments, as we want to collect a robust set of data points to better inform our decisions.

On average, it takes us around 3-5 weeks to make a hiring decision, depending on your availability and sense of urgency. As a best practice, we aim to interview at least 2-3 final round candidates before making a hiring decision. Please note that, as we usually receive an overwhelming number of applications for open positions, we’re unable to offer individual feedback during the interview process.

We recognize that interviewing for a new role is a big deal.
