Life Underwriting Research Consultant - 100% Remote US

The Opportunity:
As a Life Underwriting Research Consultant, you'll join an innovative and dynamic environment supporting the Office of the Corporate Chief Underwriter (OCCU). In this role, you'll dive into a variety of exciting projects and research initiatives. Your work will be diverse and impactful, including supporting protective value (PV) studies; creating RFPs for different vendors and vendor evaluation; examining and identifying new data sources for research and insights; improving workflows and working on ways to increase automation; providing input on predictive modeling; and revising underwriting rules and procedures.

You'll join a collaborative and forward-thinking team of underwriters from various backgrounds and product expertise, who are motivated to shape the underwriting landscape at MassMutual. As a team, we demonstrate accountability, agility, a dedication to being inclusive, a strong business acumen, and show courage and professionalism when advocating for a particular project or presenting a healthy challenge to the status quo. Outside of the Underwriting team, you can expect to work with colleagues from Data Science, Actuarial, Product, Competitive Intelligence, and IT.
The Impact:

  • Partner with leadership across the enterprise to champion changes that improve processes, while maintaining mortality expectations
  • Shape data sources for data driven underwriting practices
  • Provide recommendations around new technologies and methodologies for risk selection
  • Analyze, create, and develop rules for our algorithmic and accelerated underwriting (fluidless) processes
  • Develop new and competitive underwriting guidelines with research, documentation, marketing, and presentations

The Minimum Qualifications:
  • HS diploma or GED
  • 8+ years of relevant work experience in Life Insurance Underwriting
  • Minimum $5+ million life approval limit without second signature

The Preferred Qualifications
  • Bachelor's Degree
  • Confident communicator with strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Be able to think strategically and influence others.
  • Ability to partner with key constituents to support strategic and tactical development.
  • A demonstrated track record of consistently meeting and/or exceeding performance expectations.
  • Industry exams completed
