About the Role
Are you a former USCG Marine Inspector, Port State Control (PSC) Officer, or Marine Investigator looking to leverage your regulatory expertise in the commercial maritime sector?We are the world’s largest ship registry, and we know that the people behind the flag drive our success. We are currently seeking a Regional Compliance Manager to oversee our Northeast fleet, our Northwest Fleet, and our Southern fleet. In this highly autonomous, remote-based role, you will serve as our boots-on-the-ground technical expert, ensuring that vessels navigating one of these districts meet the highest international safety and security standards.
If you are a transitioning or veteran Coast Guard professional with deep knowledge of international maritime conventions, this is an opportunity to take ownership of fleet compliance, investigations, and safety in a globally impactful role.
Key Responsibilities
- Inspections & Audits: Plan and execute safety and security Flag Inspections and Audits of vessels to evaluate compliance with international conventions and Maritime Law.
- Marine Investigations: Lead marine casualty investigations on behalf of the Registry, drafting comprehensive reports and coordinating with the internal Investigations Department.
- Liaison Operations: Serve as the primary point of contact with USCG Marine Inspectors, PSC Officers, and Recognized Organization surveyors regarding the status of vessels.
- Data Analysis & Strategy: Analyze PSC Detentions to identify trends, strengthen internal processes, and improve overall fleet compliance.
- Training & Development: Assist in developing and delivering compliance and inspection training to enhance staff proficiency.
- Subject Matter Expertise: Develop specialized knowledge in emerging industry segments (e.g., Alternative Fuels, Cruise Ships, MODUs) to advise commercial development and fleet performance teams.
- Background: Seagoing experience in the Coast Guard (as an officer, rating, or cadet), Navy, or merchant marine; OR experience as a USCG Marine Inspector / PSC Officer or class society surveyor.
- Regulatory Expertise: Working knowledge of international maritime law, conventions, and regulations, specifically SOLAS, MARPOL, STCW, and MLC.
- Specialized Training: Previous certification, training, or hands-on experience as an Inspector, Auditor, and/or Marine Casualty Investigator is highly preferred.
- Operational Readiness: Must be physically able to board vessels at sea and in port, occasionally in adverse weather conditions. Must be able to lift 25–30 lbs.
- Flexibility: Ability to liaise with vessel operators and board vessels outside of traditional working hours as required by maritime operations.
- Work Style: Highly organized, detail-oriented, and capable of operating independently within a virtual team environment.
- Competitive Base Salary: $90,000 - $125,000
