We are looking for an accountant who can organise our historical transactions, maintain accurate ongoing books and prepare clear monthly financial reports. We already work with a Chartered Accountant. You will coordinate with our team and existing CA to ensure that complete, reconciled accounting information is available on time. Role Overview You will take ownership of week-to-week bookkeeping, historical accounting cleanup, sales and payment reconciliation, expense tracking, inventory accounting and monthly reporting. This role requires more than entering bills into accounting software. You should be able to investigate differences, follow up for missing documents and explain the numbers clearly to the business owner. Key Responsibilities 1. Historical Accounting Cleanup Reconstruct and organise accounting records from the September–October 2024 test-run period onward. Review bank statements, business credit-card statements, sales reports, purchase invoices, expense bills and settlement reports. Identify missing documents, duplicate entries, unrecorded transactions and reconciliation differences. Maintain a missing-information tracker and follow up with the responsible team members. Prepare month-wise accounts showing revenue, expenses and profit or loss. Clearly document estimates, assumptions and unresolved items for CA review. 2. Daily Bookkeeping and Expense Management Record sales, purchases, expenses, receipts, payments and relevant accounting adjustments. Maintain customer, supplier and other ledger accounts. Track outstanding supplier bills, advances and payment due dates. Record salaries, rent, software subscriptions, advertising and other operating expenses. Track discounts, cancellations, refunds, returns and failed transactions. Reconcile payment-gateway settlements and COD remittances with bank receipts. Identify pending settlements, short payments, deductions and unexplained differences. Reconcile shipping-partner invoices, forward shipping charges, RTO charges and other logistics fees. Coordinate with internal teams and service providers to resolve discrepancies. 4. Inventory and Product Cost Accounting Maintain and reconcile stock purchases, sales, returns and stock adjustments using available records. Track product-wise purchase costs and changes in costs over time. Calculate cost of goods sold and closing inventory using the method agreed with our CA. Account for returned goods based on their condition and whether they are received back into inventory. Track damaged, lost or unsellable stock separately. Coordinate periodic physical-stock checks with the operations team. 5. Monthly Financial and Business Reporting Prepare reports covering: Monthly profit and loss. Balance sheet and supporting schedules for CA review. Cash receipts, payments and cash position. Supplier payables and customer/payment-provider receivables. Inventory value and stock discrepancies. Advertising, logistics and other major expenses. Product/channel contribution margins where reliable data is available. Fixed and variable costs. Break-even sales estimates based on agreed assumptions. A rolling cash forecast covering upcoming payments and expected collections. Explain significant changes, unusual expenses and unresolved differences in simple language. 6. Provide schedules and information required for applicable GST, TDS and other compliance work. Compare relevant accounting records with filed returns under the CA’s guidance. Implement corrections and accounting treatments agreed with the CA. Ensure bookkeeping and reporting deadlines are met. Required Qualifications and Skills B.Com, M.Com or a relevant accounting qualification. CA Inter candidates are also welcome. Practical experience in bookkeeping, ledger scrutiny, bank reconciliation and preparing monthly accounts. Working knowledge of Tally Prime, Zoho Books or similar accounting software. Strong Excel or Google Sheets skills, including lookups, pivot tables and reconciliation of large datasets.
