Benefits Manager

Key Role Overview This Benefits Manager will lead administration and strategy for Weis Markets' comprehensive health, welfare and retirement programs, acting as the primary point of contact for vendors and brokers and managing benefits lifecycle and compliance. The role includes hands-on administration, budget and vendor invoice oversight, open enrollment management, 401(k) administration and leave/ACA compliance, and supervises a small team while partnering with multiple third-party vendors. Key Responsibilities - Oversee administration of Health & Welfare programs including medical, prescription drug, dental, vision, life & AD&D, disability, flexible spending accounts, voluntary programs and COBRA, serving as primary point of contact for third-party vendors and resolving claims and benefit issues. - Manage relationships with brokers and vendors and support associates through the benefits lifecycle including orientation, enrollment, payroll deduction coordination, and resolution of benefits queries. - Manage weekly benefit budget and estimated budget projection with broker; submit to accounting for release and oversee vendor invoice review, reconciliation and submission for payment. - Forecast and manage a $43M benefits budget, reviewing and reconciling expenses. - Approve qualifying life event changes and new hire benefit enrollments and manage benefit escalations to deliver viable solutions with providers. - Create and deliver communications to increase health and wellness awareness and improve plan participation; maintain awareness of regulatory changes and mandated disclosures. - Develop and maintain benefit designs and retirement programs by updating Workday eligibility and rate tables and creating/managing EIB file feeds and HRIS requests. - Administer 401(k) retirement plan activities including setting up deductions, reporting eligibility dates, compiling documentation for Form 5500, overseeing non-discrimination testing, managing annual 401(k) audit process and serving as primary reviewer for auditors' reports and SAR preparation. - Manage and maintain company leave of absence programs ensuring compliance with FMLA, STD, ADA and other local, state and federal laws. - Lead ACA compliance activities including filing returns to the IRS and distributing 1095-C forms to associates. - Organize and manage annual Open Enrollment and provide reporting on new hires, terminations and other relevant data. - Perform other duties as assigned and supervise three direct reports while managing external partnerships with multiple third-party vendors. Required Qualifications - Bachelor’s degree (BA/BS) in Human Resources or related field with emphasis in business or finance, or equivalent professional/analytical experience. - Minimum 5+ years of experience in benefit plan strategy, design and administration with proven experience designing and implementing benefit programs. - Deep knowledge of employee benefit plan design including healthcare, leave of absence, and defined contribution retirement programs, including plan administration complexities, payroll processes, regulatory requirements and taxability of benefits. - Strong vendor and broker management experience, hands-on benefits administration skills, and experience with Workday or similar HRIS platforms. Preferred Qualifications - Experience managing large benefits budgets and leading 401(k) audit and compliance activities. - Demonstrated ability to develop communications and health/wellness engagement programs.
